Just another reason why I won't EVER buy a Windows computer again

First things first, I have the OS 3.0 beta for iPhone and I will definitely post about my experience with that later.

After an entire weekend of seeing Microsoft's ridiculous commercial about Lauren and her quest to find a 17" laptop for less than a $1000 I am convinced that I will never buy another Window's computer....EVER!

If you haven't seen the commercial you're not really missing out on much. A woman named Lauren drives around town looking for her ideal laptop and the first place she goes is the Apple store. She realizes that she can't get a 17" laptop for less than a $1000 so she bolts and makes the comment that "she's not cool enough to be a Mac person." As if having an Apple product ever made anyone "cool." If your level of "coolness" and social status are established only by whether or not you have an Apple computer than I would propose that we all band together like the New Testament church in the Book of Acts and make sure that everyone has an Apple computer.

Lauren ends up buying an HP computer from Best Buy where, you guessed it, they sell Apple computers! Technically she could've just gone to Best Buy, looked around, and then purchased the HP laptop. But Microsoft is obviously trying to make the point that Apple computers are way too expensive and if you do buy one you're not really getting a lot of bang for your buck. So when I saw the commercial for the LAST time last night I decided to make mention of some of the awesome perks of having either a Mac or a PC but here's the commercial if you somehow were sucked into a universe run completely off of a UNIX based operating system.

So the pros and cons to it all. Well as far as customer service goes Apple wins hands down. Not only were we able to schedule a personal shopping appointment when we purchased our iPhones but Erin, the associate, spent an hour with my wife and I going over any questions that we had.

Apple Care is UNBELIEVABLE! I've had a lot of situations where my Mac Book Pro took a beating and just barely made it out alive yet Apple replaced the entire unit. For those of you who don't know Apple Care is essentially a two year extended warranty that covers just about anything that could happen to your Apple computer. There are certain limitations but for the most part Apple is very accommodating.

The genius bar, when it's not completely booked, is AWESOME! I've never had an Apple genius who wasn't extremely patient with my millions of questions and concerns. But probably the best thing about the genius bar or calling in to Apple for technical support is that their help desk doesn't redirect you to India! Why do I want to talk to someone who reads off of a prompter for the duration of our conversation? Why would I want to talk with someone who is working a job that should've been in the US to begin with? Don't get me wrong I'm not against India at all, I am against outsourcing American jobs; especially right now. I realize that Apple does outsource some of their phone support but in the almost 6 years that I've been on Apple computers I have never once spoken with a customer service rep. who was overseas.

Well, I guess we should talk about the cons. Okay. Apple computers aren't cheap, but neither where the 5 hard drives that I bought to repair my college PC the 5 times the hard drives crashed.

Okay but PCs are cheaper for the same speed processor...except that Microsoft won't advertise that it took them 7 years to come out with an operating system, Vista, that looks a lot like an Apple OS, Tiger, and it runs on at least 1GB of Ram at idle. Wow...what a waste of Ram.

I'm sure there's some great advantage to having a PC...most of them don't have an iSight(camera built into the monitor) and I guess most of them don't have the awesome multi-touch track pad that Apple uses for their laptops.

Well, I could go on forever about it but if you've gotten this far you're either right there with me or preparing an objection right now...which I am of course always open to. Thanks for reading.

iPhone OS 3.0 Beta giveaway tomorrow

Tomorrow the guys at SingleGrain.com are giving away 50 more licenses for the beta version of the new OS 3.0 for the iPhone. The software has a lot of amazing updates that really stop my complaining about the little things that I wish Apple had originally done for the iPhone: like cut and paste MMS and internet tethering. The lisences will be given out at 10am PST (that's 1pm our time) so be sure to visit their blog "here" and read up on the terms of the agreement and what you need to do to have a chance for getting a lisence. Oh yeah, did I mention that I really really really want one? Cause I do...I'm slightly impatient when it comes to new technology.

Twitter...tweet...no twitter

I've been fighting the urge to join twitter just because I have so much going on already it just seemed like one more thing to keep up with. But while sitting in traffic yesterday I had this great epiphany;

why not sign up? It's easy, I can update from my iPhone and to top it off there's nothing more flattering than thousands of people following me all day to find out what I'm doing.

I joke but mostly because I only have a whopping 2 followers right now. Ha! So if you care anything about my randomly updated status or want to see pics that I'll only upload to twitter just search for me, Courtney Navey, and you'll find me with my little tweets! Have a great week!

New Gallery Wraps

A few of the Starbucks in Raleigh are giving in to the art community and asking local artists to show off their work. So when I was asked I became really excited because now I had an excuse to print with Simply Canvas. My canvases showed up yesterday and I couldn't be happier! Because I'm so excited about the product I will no longer be offering traditional stretched canvases and will replace them with the new gallery wraps. I'll still continue to offer the canvas masonite prints. Well, enough gabbing about business, here are a few shots of some of my new samples. I'll be in the Starbucks in Wakefield from April 15 through May 15. After May I'll rotate between Starbucks and other local coffee shops but I'll also showcase some traditional media art like paintings and a few pieces I have that are testimony to my obsession with texture. Even though Starbucks can't inform people that the artists may or may not be selling their art I will have plenty of cards available when I showcase, and everything, whether photography or traditional media art, will be available for pruchase. Not so much for the money, actually more for the really cool feeling of knowing that my work is in someone else's home. Cheers!

Jay Lillie & His Book

Earlier this week I was able to get together with Jay Lillie to shoot a few promotional shots for his new book Havana Passage. In short it's a novel about life after Castro and two people who fall in love in spite of politics. Jay's a really cool guy so hopefully I'll have the time to put it on my list of must reads. I had so much fun with the shoot I thought I'd post a few shots from our session. Also, be sure to check out Jeremy and the guys at Mach 9 Web Designs for the website work on Jay's site.

Sneak Peek of the New Mr. & Mrs. Wilcox

Today we'll be driving back from Marietta, Georgia. Yesterday I had the "spring forward" pleasure of shooting one of the first weddings taking advantage of the extra daylight. I thought I'd post a sneak peak of Stephen and Whitney. I'll be sure to post more later. If you've found me on Facebook you can view the rest of the samples that I posted last night.
