After an entire weekend of seeing Microsoft's ridiculous commercial about Lauren and her quest to find a 17" laptop for less than a $1000 I am convinced that I will never buy another Window's computer....EVER!
If you haven't seen the commercial you're not really missing out on much. A woman named Lauren drives around town looking for her ideal laptop and the first place she goes is the Apple store. She realizes that she can't get a 17" laptop for less than a $1000 so she bolts and makes the comment that "she's not cool enough to be a Mac person." As if having an Apple product ever made anyone "cool." If your level of "coolness" and social status are established only by whether or not you have an Apple computer than I would propose that we all band together like the New Testament church in the Book of Acts and make sure that everyone has an Apple computer.
Lauren ends up buying an HP computer from Best Buy where, you guessed it, they sell Apple computers! Technically she could've just gone to Best Buy, looked around, and then purchased the HP laptop. But Microsoft is obviously trying to make the point that Apple computers are way too expensive and if you do buy one you're not really getting a lot of bang for your buck. So when I saw the commercial for the LAST time last night I decided to make mention of some of the awesome perks of having either a Mac or a PC but here's the commercial if you somehow were sucked into a universe run completely off of a UNIX based operating system.
So the pros and cons to it all. Well as far as customer service goes Apple wins hands down. Not only were we able to schedule a personal shopping appointment when we purchased our iPhones but Erin, the associate, spent an hour with my wife and I going over any questions that we had.
Apple Care is UNBELIEVABLE! I've had a lot of situations where my Mac Book Pro took a beating and just barely made it out alive yet Apple replaced the entire unit. For those of you who don't know Apple Care is essentially a two year extended warranty that covers just about anything that could happen to your Apple computer. There are certain limitations but for the most part Apple is very accommodating.
The genius bar, when it's not completely booked, is AWESOME! I've never had an Apple genius who wasn't extremely patient with my millions of questions and concerns. But probably the best thing about the genius bar or calling in to Apple for technical support is that their help desk doesn't redirect you to India! Why do I want to talk to someone who reads off of a prompter for the duration of our conversation? Why would I want to talk with someone who is working a job that should've been in the US to begin with? Don't get me wrong I'm not against India at all, I am against outsourcing American jobs; especially right now. I realize that Apple does outsource some of their phone support but in the almost 6 years that I've been on Apple computers I have never once spoken with a customer service rep. who was overseas.
Well, I guess we should talk about the cons. Okay. Apple computers aren't cheap, but neither where the 5 hard drives that I bought to repair my college PC the 5 times the hard drives crashed.
Okay but PCs are cheaper for the same speed processor...except that Microsoft won't advertise that it took them 7 years to come out with an operating system, Vista, that looks a lot like an Apple OS, Tiger, and it runs on at least 1GB of Ram at idle. Wow...what a waste of Ram.
I'm sure there's some great advantage to having a PC...most of them don't have an iSight(camera built into the monitor) and I guess most of them don't have the awesome multi-touch track pad that Apple uses for their laptops.
Well, I could go on forever about it but if you've gotten this far you're either right there with me or preparing an objection right now...which I am of course always open to. Thanks for reading.
